Rob Machado – How to get in the barrel
In this episode Rob Machado gives us 3 tips to get in the barrel at Teahupoo. The Tahiti wave is one of the most feared in the world. Its fast and vertical drop delights thousands of surfers who travel to the island annually.
How to get in the barrel?
The barrel is possibly the best-known surf maneuver. It consists of traveling inside the wave. To do this, as we descend the wave, we will stick to the wall with the help of the back arm and let the lip completely cover us. Rob Machado summarizes his technique in 3 ‘simple’ steps.
3 steps to get in the barrel
1.- Perception Noticing the point where one is inside the wave. According to Machado, we will never be as ‘deep’ as we think.
2.- Speed control For this, we will use the back arm.

3.- Body inclination The body must remain aligned and centered and always keep an eye on the lip of the wave, looking for the exit.
